There's a new E-Course starting up soon! This will be the 3rd Summer I've done an Art Journal themed Course. Love it that! I journal every morning, but there's something about Summer. Journals yearn for colorful, artful pages. There's also more time to experiment and play in the Summer so that's exactly what I do.
This E-Course will be a delicious mix of collage style pages, with PDF's a plenty, several art prompts to tempt you and encourage you to develop a stronger sense of personal style. This is a Workshop about embellishing the pages and then comfortable writing in your own style. The art prompts are something new and not done in my previous E-Courses! Very excited about them! I'll provide the inspiration (color palettes and theory, patterns, photos) and you use them as inspiration on your pages.
Between the Lines Art Journal E-Course is set to begin Monday, July 5. You will need a journal to use of course, so I thought I'd post a few that'd make great journals.
Everyone has preferences when it comes to journals. Personally, I love journals that lay flat. Also like the pages to be big, I look for 5x8 or so. Hardback and repurposed is especially lovely! Sometimes I leave the cover as is...but most often the covers get embellished so it doesn't matter what the cover looks like.
The pages need to be thick. Text weight (20 lb.) isn't a good choice because we add so much to them. Look for at least 60 lb. weight if you can.

Find this blue gem here. I have purchased several repurposed journals from here.
Found here. Love that thick cover.
Papaya Art has some fabulous journals, too! The Sabrina Ward Harrison Reversible Journals are perfect for us. They have really thick pages and are a great size. Found here. The covers are already beautiful...it'd be tough to embellish or cover them up. Warning! If you can slither away from Anahata's website with just one journal and nothing else...you are much stronger than me!
Paper Source had some pretty journals with what looks to be a good weight of paper/pages, too!
Besides the journal itself, you will need:
- White Paint Pen or White Sharpie
- Good black writing pens in widths of your choice
- Watercolors (even the children's version at the grocery store will work)
- Acrylic paints in your favorite colors, and brushes
- Glue sticks
- Rubber brayer (optional)
- Colored pencils
- Markers (Copics will be covered in the course)
- Full sheets of Avery sticker paper (office supply store),
- Computer printer (so you print out all the goodies I have been making!)
- Patterned papers
- Tracing paper
- Carbon paper
- Magazines
- Digital camera or/and photos
- Optional embellishments: rub ons, small sticker letters, ribbons, etc.
So to do today (or soon): go through your art space and pick out the perfect journal and check your supplies! That way you will be all set to begin on Monday, July 5!
Edit: The E-Workshop has been added to the website. Sorry for that delay! Find it: here.
