Today our daughter is running a relay at the NAIA Indoor Track Nationals. Way over in Geneva, Ohio. It's always been her favorite race and she's been really good at it, well, for years now.
We are soooo proud of that girl. Yesterday I found myself getting down more than once, wishing we could be there to watch her experience this, and to support her. But it just wasn't feasible. She knows we are with her in spirit though. So many people are!
Our youngest son is starting track today and is so excited. Our older son is a long time runner as well, and also a great runner.
A few days ago I was telling our youngest that his sister started running at the same age he is. And she wasn't very good. But she kept at it anyway. He was surprised to hear that. As long as he's been paying attention to her running, she's been really good. I think it was encouraging to hear that she wasn't always on top of her game. Good things don't just happen overnight.
It took her quite a few years to be good at it. She didn't even make the varsity team until her junior year. Even in high school she didn't start to shine until her senior year! And when she did...she sure did. It was really great to witness!
Her freshman year in college, she lost her school. Her college closed it's doors. That would have been a good time to quit. Or a good time to try harder. She chose to try harder. She found the pefect university for her major and her sport. She made new friends. Devoted herself to new coaches and their styles. Talk about a good fit.
Look where she is today!! Pretty cool.
So, I guess if I had to give a moral to this story it would be to never give up. Protect your dreams, challenge adversity and the naysayers...guard your goals with all your might, and know that nothing is impossible!! Good luck today Allie!!!
I love track! My daughter ran for the university of Idaho. Track played such a great part in developing her self confidence and keeping her focused. Congratulations and good luck to your kids!
